Glut in Digital Camera Market Proves Valuable to Photochemical Recycler PDF Print E-mail

AXcess News - HOUSTON As more digital camera models hit the market, it's creating an environmental problem for film developers, who've got to dispose of the hazardous chemicals left over after those photographs are developed, which is proving valuable to Reno, Nev.-based Itronics, Inc. (OTCBB: ITRO), a recycler of photochemicals.

At first blush you might argue that digital cameras are actually shrinking the amount of pictures being processed and turned into photographs, but you'd be wrong. Many consumers today take their digital film to locations where they can get them developed, and the number of disposable cameras is compounding that demand even more, which is why growing environmental concerns over heavy metals and other pollutants left over in the film developing process are putting pressure on companies to dispose of photochemical waste, and there are not many options available.

Itronics, Inc. recycles the photochemicals, removing the heavy metals and turning the leftover liquids into liquid fertilizer the Company sells commercially under the GOLD'n GRO label. The company recovers the silver in the process, and manufactures a five-ounce pure-silver bar, completing the environmental recycling process - a win/win for both consumers and the companies looking to dispose of their photochemical waste.

Tuesday, Itronics reported that it inked deals with two major suppliers of waste photochemicals that will more than triple sales. Silver production is also expected to expand three-fold, the company said.
