PMA 2005 Imaging Company Showcases Variety of Quick and Easy Ways To Get Digital Prints From Retail Photo Centers
February 8, 2005 Fuji Photo Film U.S.A., Inc., a leading provider of digital imaging products and services, is showcasing its growing portfolio of retail digital printing solutions at the 2005 Photo Marketing Association (PMA) Trade Show.
The show highlights several innovative new ways that Fujifilm is helping
consumers quickly and easily connect to thousands of U.S. retail photo centers
for high-quality, long-lasting prints of their digital photographs.
"Fujifilm continues to evolve the photofinishing experience for the digital
age," said Gael Lundeen, Vice President and General Manager, Photofinishing and
Web Services Division, Fujifilm Imaging Group. "Now that consumers have embraced
digital capture technologies and the number of digital images explodes, trusted
retailers continue to make digital printing quick, easy and familiar."
According to InfoTrends, the number of digital prints processed at retail
grew from 3% in 2003 to 24% by ay 2004. In a study sponsored by Fujifilm,
InfoTrends projects that number will jump to over 50% by the end of 2005. As an
imaging leader, Fujifilm has already developed a line-up of service options that
will make it easy for this vast population of consumers to connect with retail
photo centers to print, enjoy and preserve their digital pictures.
2004: A Very Good Year For Making Digital Printing Quick, Easy and Profitable
By the end of 2004, Fujifilm had teamed up with a number of retail and
wireless leaders to give today's digital photographers easy new ways to print
their digital photos, and give retailers a renewed photofinishing revenue stream
after a decline in recent years due to the dearth of convenient options for
printing digital photos.
Fujifilm's "Get the Picture Online Service," introduced at PMA 2003, became
the first online print ordering system to allow consumers to upload images from
their PC for delivery, or, more recently, to pick up at a local retailer,
sometimes within an hour. Consumers locate participating retailers at http://www.fujifilm.com/pictures.
Beginning late last year, through collaboration with Fujifilm, Microsoft began
to offer the same convenience to Windows XP users, who access "Get the Picture
Online Service" directly through the "Online Print Wizard" on the Windows XP
operating system.
Also in 2004, Fujifilm led the way with a series of partnership agreements
with leading cellular network carriers to connect the burgeoning population of
camera phone users to fun and easy mobile print services. Linked through
Fujifilm's "Get the Picture Online Service," Sprint now offers subscribers an
online print order service that sends their mobile images directly to a
participating retail photofinisher for real prints of their camera phone
pictures. The service - the first of its kind offered to wireless customers -
offers the convenience of in-store pick-up. Nextel offers a similar service,
also powered by Fujifilm.
With Cingular, Fujifilm has developed a unique postcard application. Cingular
customers can use camera phones to create personalized Fujifilm photo postcards
that can be mailed through the U.S. Postal Service directly from a Cingular
handset. Users simply select a postcard design and a photo from their camera
phones, add a personal message, address it, and mail it -- quickly, simply and
wirelessly.
Fujifilm has long offered digital photographers the option of dropping off
their images at the retail counter, in addition to self-service kiosks that
accept most types of digital media. Fujifilm's Digital Photo Center allows
consumers to print professional quality prints from Fujifilm Frontier Digital
Lab Systems. The Digital Photo Center allows consumers to enhance, enlarge, crop
and/or edit pictures themselves and is wireless-enabled to accept camera phone
images that are beamed. In addition, Fujifilm's Printpix self-serve kiosk
provides on-the-spot digital camera developing services for consumers who want
digital picture prints without the wait.
