The PowerShot Pro1 is the new flagship of Canon's PowerShot line-up. destined to be a leader in the compact digital camera class - the camera has an extraordinary 8 Megapixels of imaging power, a superb Canon L-series 7x zoom lens, and a host of professional-level capabilities. Yet with all it's advanced technology, the Pro1 retains the ease of use that PowerShot cameras are famous for.

PowerShot Advances to a New Level of Performance - PowerShot Pro1 was created to lead not only the PowerShot line, but the entire compact digital camera class-and it succeeds brilliantly. The camera's superiority starts with the lens: an exceptionally bright, genuine Canon L Lens with a powerful 7x zoom. Canon L-series lenses are the first choice of professional photographers the world over for their manufacturing precision, state-of-the-art features and ultra-durable construction. An 8-megapixel CCD captures a wealth of detail, imbuing your photography with a truly lifelike vibrancy and ensuring that even your largest prints will faithfully and dynamically render your photographic vision. Canon's exclusive Digic Imaging Processor, an industry benchmark, maximizes the camera's extraordinary pixel count. The camera also employs Canon's own iSAPS Technology, developed from more than 60 years of photographic experience. Added to these critical elements are a host of high-performance capabilities that offer advanced amateurs a new level of flexibility: an extensive array of shooting modes and functions, intelligent automatic systems, and sophisticated manual controls.

Unsurpassed Image Quality - Designed to create professional-level finished work, the PowerShot Pro1 is equipped with the most powerful, advanced lens in the PowerShot line. In fact, the Pro1's debut marks the first time a fluorite lens has been used in a PowerShot digital camera. The fluorite lens (a direct result of Canon's decades-long pursuit of the ideal lens) gives clear, sharp image delineation which other optical glass cannot match. Paired with UD (Ultra-low Dispersion) glass, the lens achieves the absolute minimum in chromatic aberration. An Aspherical lens is also incorporated. Precision-manufactured to within 0.1 microns via a software program Canon developed, it corrects spherical aberrations and curvilinear distortion while keeping the zoom lens compact.

The 7x zoom lens' focal length ranges from the wide-angle 28mm to the telephoto 200mm level (in 35mm film equivalent) to handle everything from snapshots, landscapes, portraits and sports scenes with ease. The zoom is powered with an Ultrasonic Motor for fast, silent performance. In addition, Canon technology allows the lens to achieve exceptionally large maximum aperture of f/2.4 to f/3.5, with the highest brightness in its class for the 28mm end of the zoom range. A digital zoom brings total zooming all the way up to 22x (resolution at the maximum digital zoom factor is 1024 x 768).

The camera's resolution places it solidly at the top of the compact digital camera class: an extraordinary 8 million pixels, for a 3264 x 2448 resolution that will give your photography an astonishing level of clarity and depth. Canon's exclusive DiGiC imaging Processor enhances resolution even further, with superior image quality, super-fast processing and highly responsive performance. iSAPS Technology instantly optimizes the camera's automatic focus, exposure and white balance systems to suit any photographic situation, while primary color filters ensure true, luminous color.

Superb Performance - The PowerShot Pro1 employs Canon's advanced Hybrid AF system. This system maximizes the advantages of both the traditional contrast detection method (high precision) and triangulation (high-speed). The result is fast, accurate AF over the entire range of photographic conditions.

The camera's innovative FlexiZone AF/AE system lets you move the AF point around the frame to focus on off-center subjects without reframing the shot. When spot metering is used, it can measure at the exact AF point location or meter the center of the picture area. The camera's extensive array of manual controls befits its professional-level image quality. Knowledgeable users can tailor shutter speed, aperture, focus, flash output and exposure control to match the photographic conditions and their own creative vision.

The camera's standard macro function brings you a breathtaking 4-inches from your subject. But now you can get even closer: 1.2-inches with a new Super Macro Mode that delivers a full 5 megapixels of close-up detail.

Three light-metering modes are available for precise exposure: Evaluative Metering, Center-weighted Average Metering and Spot Metering, which lets you measure exposure at the chosen AF point or the center of the frame for an exceptional level of control.

Expanded Capabilities - Shooting with flash never slows down the action. The Built-in Pop-up Flash retracts when not in use, and you can opt to allow the flash to pop up and fire automatically whenever the camera detects a low ambient light situation. The camera's 3-mode built-in flash includes Red-Eye Reduction, and can be completely automatic or adjusted manually to 3 levels. Flash exposure compensation can be set (+/-) 2 stops in 1/3-stop increments. Advanced users will enjoy first and second curtain sync options for creative effects, plus compatibility with Canon's full line of EX-series Speedlite external flashes and Canon's E-TTL wireless flash system.

Simply attach the optional Conversion Lens Adapter LA-DC58C to access a much wider photographic range. For example, add the new optional Tele-Converter TC-DC58A to achieve 1.5 times the focal distance of the master lens, or the optional 58mm Close-up Lens 500D for fabulous macro shots. PowerShot Pro1 includes a converter mode to ensure that the lens automatically moves to the optimum zoom position for both these conversion lenses.

The camera comes equipped with a removable Lens Hood LH-DC10 that prevents any potential flare, and Filter Adapter FA-DC58A, which lets you attach filters for special effects. The camera uses a new Lithium Ion Battery Pack BP-511A with extended shooting capacity and a battery charge confirmation window that lets you easily distinguish between a discharged battery pack and a fully charged one. Enjoy expanded memory and high-speed writing with CompactFlash Cards Type I and II.

Intuitive Design - With a comfortable, ergonomic grip and natural inline layout of key elements, PowerShot Pro1 is designed with the photographer in mind.

The camera features a swiveling 2.0-inch Vari-angle LCD monitor that offers the highest resolution in its class at 235,000 pixels. The electronic viewfinder offers the same sharp resolution, and both keep pace with the high-speed zoom for seamless, responsive shooting.

Information in the large display panel is always clear and visible- and the panel can be illuminated at the push of a button. The mode dial is located for easy viewing during operation, and a main switch takes you quickly from shooting to playback mode.

When you switch off the power, the camera's shooting lens begins retracting immediately: no waiting for data to be written to the CF card. And now you can shoot in silence with a one-touch mute function that disables all sounds except the warning sound.

When viewing your captured images in playback mode, zoom in on your shots up to 10x simply by turning the zoom ring, just as you would for manual zooming while shooting.

Share Your Creativity - PowerShot Pro1 comes complete with Canon's own Digital Camera Solution Disk and proven third-party software: ZoomBrowser EX (Win)/ImageBrowser (Mac): A user-friendly program that lets you quickly and easily connect, manage files and view images.

PhotoRecord (Win): Create exciting photo layouts for personal or business use, putting text anywhere on the page. Includes Exif support for enhanced color accuracy and detail. PhotoStitch (Win/Mac): Join sequential shots to create seamless, perfectly aligned vertical, horizontal, 2x2 panoramas or 360-degree panorama movies.

TWAIN Driver/WIA Driver (Win): Allows your computer to recognize your camera and integrate well with third-party software. ArcSoft Camera Suite (Win/Mac): Crop, enlarge and retouch photos and Apple QuickTime (Win): Makes playing back video clips like a pro.

Professional quality prints are as close as your fine Canon printer. The camera connects directly to a wide range of Canon Card Photo Printers and Canon Direct Photo Printers for a world of printing options: credit card-size, 4x6, 5x7, letter-size (8.5x11), 11x13, labels, and much more, all without your computer.

While Canon printers will deliver the highest quality prints from your PowerShot Pro1, the camera is equipped with PictBridge compatibility to ensure smooth connections to other manufacturers' printers as well.

Smart Shooting - PowerShot Pro1 puts an extensive array of shooting modes at your fingertips.
- C1 C2 Custom Mode: Store up to two sets of camera settings and recall them at a twist of the mode dial.

- Stitch Assist: - Easily create precisely aligned panoramas.
- Movie: - Shoot 640 x 480 high-resolution movie clips with sound, up to 30 seconds per clip. Longer recording times-up to three minutes-are possible in the 320 x 240 and 160 x 120 resolution settings. And you can delete unwanted scenes after they're shot, right in the camera.

Advanced Functions - Extremely fast-moving subjects are fair game with a high-precision shutter drive that reaches a maximum speed of 1/4000 sec. (or you can shoot for up to 15 seconds in low light).

Two continuous shooting modes capture high-impact images at any pace: standard (1 image per second) or high-speed (2.5 images per second). In Stitch Assist, PowerShot Pro1 even lets you confirm the next image to shoot on the LCD monitor or electronic viewfinder while you're shooting the current image. Attaining proper white balance, key to a professional result, is easy and flexible. Presets include Daylight, Cloudy, Tungsten, Fluorescent, H and Flash. The camera offers 2 custom positions as well.

The camera enables your most creative photography with AE and AF Lock (lock in exposure or focus while adjusting other parameters) plus FE Lock for use with optional EX-series Speedlites. In addition, insure your best shot with Focus Bracketing (at stop widths of large, medium and small), and Auto Exposure

A major advantage to digital is the ability to switch ISO ratings without worrying about switching film rolls. PowerShot Pro1 offers instant access to ISO equivalents of 50, 100, 200 and 400. PowerShot Pro1 produces professional-level quality images. Accordingly, the camera offers a choice of professional color spaces: a standard sRGB color space setting, plus Adobe RGB, a broader color spectrum. Adobe RGB is the data standard of the printing industry, making the camera perfect for professionals who will use images as originals for printed documents.

The camera gives you the flexibility of 16 image quality modes to match your end purpose exactly: five modes from small to large combined with three compression ratios (normal, fine, superfine), plus RAW mode. In addition, you can develop RAW files with 16-bit depth using the TWAIN Driver for increased stability in image quality, perfect for professional-level image retouching and finishing.

Photo Effects boost the artistry of your shots instantly. Choose Vivid Color, Neutral Color, Low Sharpening, Sepia or Black & White, plus set and save your own custom effects by choosing contrast, sharpness and saturation levels.
