Coolpix 5400 Firmware update 1.4

Latest firmware upgrade 1.4 for the Nikon Coolpix 5400 brings the welcome enhancement of RAW file support bringing a significant improvement to both image quality and post editing options that would not have been possible prior to the new RAW file support

Whats New

• A RAW option has been added to the Image Quality menu. With this option selected RAW data from the CCD is saved in Nikon Electronic Image Format (NEF file) without processing or compression preserving the highest level of detail.

• Corrections have been made to some English and French menu text

IMPORTANT: Coolpix 5400 NEF files are only supported by the following Nikon software:

• Nikon View version 6.2.2 or later 

• Nikon Capture version 4.1.0 or later  

• PictureProject version 1.0 or later

The basic steps to update the firmware are:

• Download and expand the firmware files

• Format an approved CF card in the camera

• Connect Camera to computer (in MSC USB mode) or use a CF Card Reader

• Copy to the top level of the card the downloaded “firmware” folder (which contains the “firmware.bin” file)

• Disconnect camera from computer

• Start camera in “Playback Mode”

• Follow the camera’s on-screen menus

• At completion of upgrade restart camera (in Shooting mode)

• Re-format Card
